Unfairness

Unfairness. The lack of equality or justice. You'd think that after a few thousand years of existence, humans would have found a way to overcome it, but the fact is, it's here to stay.

This unfairness takes many forms. One of them is discrimination. In society, there are certain groups which are less powerful than others these are the minorities. They often see themselves as objects of collective discrimination, and are socially excluded and disadvantaged.

For example, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, imposed a travel ban on people from Muslim countries due to a fear of terrorist attacks on his country. Protecting your country from terrorists is okay, but there are thousands of innocent people who aren't terrorists living in those Muslim countries. It's unfair for them if they can't see their loved ones in the US, or pursue a better education or a better life.

Other times, it's not so easily noticeable. Sure, you see it, but you decide to ignore it, or you don't realise it's unfair. When a new girl comes in your class and she looks different from the rest you, does anyone go up to her and say hi? Does anyone at least smile at her? Or do you just ignore her existence without meaning to? Have you ever thought of how hard it was for her to come to a new school with new friends and a completely new environment? This isn't just a single, isolated case either. It happens all the time, everyday, everywhere, in every form.

The world is full of unfairness. No matter how hard you try to escape it, it'll just show up around the corner. That doesn't mean you can't do anything about it.

Every act of kindness counts.
